It is generally accepted that for the sake of maintaining proper order and to ensure compliance of the directions given in judgements, the courts have an inherent power to punish any person or authority for contempt. The Supreme Court has been given specific power by the Constitution to punish for its contempt. Article 108 of the Constitution.
The contemnors have tendered unconditional apology at the earliest opportunity, we are taking a lenient view in awarding the sentence. The contemnors are sentenced to pay fine of Tk.50,000/- (fifty thousand only) each within seven days from date and donate the same to the Islamia Eye Hospital (Dhaka City), Farmgate, Dhaka and the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh, 150 Green Road, Panthapath, Dhaka-1215, in default to suffer simple imprisonment for seven days. .....The State =VS= Adv.
